Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. My name is Doug Kelly, the founder and owner of JD Kelly Jewelry, JDKellyJewelry.com and JD Kelly Enterprises, LLC.

I started this business out of need and my forever present sense of entrepreneurship.

My History
After high school I spent the first 18 years of my life, after high school, in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. It was, unquestionably, the best job I ever had. After back surgery I was honorably discharged in 1990 with only a 20% disability rating and no other compensation.

I moved back to South Florida, where I grew up and went to work for my brother doing sales. We all know stories about working for relatives, mine was no different, except I can say that my big brother always took care of me and gave me the benefit of the doubt.

My next job was in sales working for what was then TigerSoftware and is now known as TigerDirect. After a year in sales I moved into marketing and did pretty well for myself. So well in fact, that another company hired me away to do similar things for them.

By this time I had been out of the service for 6 years and the entrepreneur bug bit me and I became a consultant. Marketing and the Internet have stayed with me ever since. I have worked for some great companies and people over the years. They mainly hired me away from my self-owned business to make use of my talents - and they paid well too.

A few years ago my parents weren't doing so well physically, as people do, they were aging too fast for me. My mom, Becky Hall had quite a bit of artistic talent although to your face she would tell you she was a hack! All artists are like that at times. Pop (Jim) was also an artist. In his later years with Alzheimer’s he started messing around with polymer clay and eventually got to designing and selling jewelry and trinkets. After Mom passed away and he moved into a nursing home he was allowed to set up a table on weekends and sell his art. He did well enough to pay for an assistant at $10/hr and have enough left over for cigars and whatever else he wanted. Pop died of a broken heart last year (2009).

My sister Carolyn and I were talking after the funeral one day about Pop and his talents and it came around to jewelry. Well, one thing led to another and the "E" bug bit me again. I learned how to make polymer clay designs, ear wires and other findings I needed and then I set up the website and here we are.

This is my nest egg business. My wife, Cynthia, and I are making this our retirement and beyond venture.

I don't make everything you see. I find the nice things and bring them here to offer you at discount prices. We also do jewelry shows in our area for individuals and organizations to help them bring in extra money. Secretly though, I think the ladies just love being around all that jewelry.

Please feel free to drop me a note if you want to say something one way or the other. I will read and personally respond to each and every one of them. Thank you again for your patronage and support.

Sincerely,

Doug
